Persistent rains have caused floods in 13 districts of five provinces, mostly in the Northeast, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported on Thursday.
Chatchai Phromlert, director-general of the department, said steady rain caused floods in 13 districts of Sakon Nakhon, Prachin Buri, Si Sa Ket, Ubon Ratchathani and Yasothon provinces.
Sakon Nakhon was worst hit with 4,298 affected families.
In the Northeast, floods affected Muang Sakon Nakhon, Phon Na Kaeo, Sawang Daen Din, Phanna Nikhom and Akat Amnuai districts of Sakon Nakhon. They affected 4,298 families and damaged 11,782 rai or about 19 square kilometres of local farmland.
In Si Sa Ket province, flashfloods hit 50 houses in Pho sub-district of Non Khun district and Nong Ngu Luam sub-district of Benchalak district. Flood levels in local farmland were subsiding there.
In Ubon Ratchathani province, runoff flooded 10 houses in Thung Thoeng sub-district of Det Udom district, some houses and three roads in Non Klang and Samrong sub-districts of Samrong district, and 15 houses in Rai Tai and Don Chik sub-districts of Phibun Mangsahan district. Floods were also subsiding in local farmland.
In Yasothon province, the Phong River overflowed and flooded a 100-metre-long section of a dirt road between Ban Nong Ped and Tong Ton ara in Nong Ped sub-district of Muang Yasothon district. The flood levels ranged between 10 and 20 centimetres deep and were lowering.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is receiving requests for help from flood victims at its hotline number 1784 around the clock.
